Monaro
“I haven’t seen a band this good in years…” Louise Gladstone Hotel 06/06
“I’d forgotten how good it is to see a live band…” Carl City Hotel 05/06
“It’s the songs – you guys play great songs…” Emma Excelsior Hotel Glebe 06/06
Dan Mullins formed a band in 1994.
He combined Tim Hagan (bass) with James Vidler (guitars) and Andrew Axton (drums) and called the ensemble – MONARO.
The band played all over Sydney for the next six years before Tim and James headed overseas.
It was a chance meeting at Rozelle Market, three years later that brought the troupe back together.
James ran into Dan when they were both trying to buy a vinyl copy of Van Morrison’s Tupelo Honey.
Dan got the LP – the band got back together.
James was saying how most pubs in the inner-west seem to be hiring bands again.
Could it be just like the old days? Could it be that we could “put the band back together?”
A couple of calls to a couple of pubs and yep – Monaro’s back together. And they’re back with a vengeance.
Since that fateful day at the Rozelle Markets the band’s played all over the inner-west and is developing a devoted following.
And it’s largely due to the fact that people are remembering just how good it is to go to the local to watch live music.
The band went into the studio to record the album Highway in 2001, and subsequently followed it up with 2006’s Revival.
The band will be launching Revival on Friday 23rd June at the Excelsior Hotel in Glebe.
It’s free. It’s great music. And it will reignite your love of local music in local venues.
Monaro – a ride you’ll never forget.

Finally I have something to write home about

The best new Australian country rock album in years
Monaro is a five piece band which has produced a 14 song collection of truism....heartfelt ballads.... searing vocal assaults and tunes with hooks which won't let you leave.

From the title track's lamenting for white lines and men in black...to the chunky 50's country of dumped by your wave....Monaro take it from the centre to the sea - and all the country in between.

Expect a little folk, a touch of rock some blues and lots of country as Monaro smokes it up on their debut release.

The group features:
Dan Mullins on vocals.... (A lifetime member of the White Shoe Brigade)
James Vidler on guitar....(can sway and play like no other)
Tim Hagan on Bass... (leaves footprints beside the sound of Monaro
Andrew Axton on drums...(locks the band together with steel precision)
Scott Leslie on Keys....(the quintessential country gentleman)

Highway was written and recorded over a 6 month period using facilities such as stables in Goulburn - Terrace houses in Canberra - Apartments in Sydney and - The minds and hearts of the members.

The band is launching Highway on October 11th at the Off Broadway Bar in Sydney - and will then launch the Concerts by the Lakes for the Commonwealth Government in Canberra in December.

This January will see the band heading to Tamworth to promote the new record before the songwriting and recording process begins again.

Mum - I think this time I've finally found something to write homw about...
