About The Pub With No Beer
The Pub With No Beer is just twenty minutes off the Pacific Highway at Macksville on the North Coast of NSW - but a hundred years back in time. The Pub started life as a boarding house in 1896 but fulfilled its true destiny and became a licensed hotel in 1903. The Pub was immortalised in the 1950's when Gordon Parsons, a talented songwriter and timber cutter working in the area, wrote about a true story of the Pub running out of beer. The piece was recorded by Slim Dusty and became one of Australia's most famous songs.
Today, The Pub With no Beer stands just the way it's always been - a classic, timber Australian bush pub. There's plenty of history on the walls and tall tales at the bar. There's comfortable overnight accommodation as well as camping areas. The Pub With No Beer is a great place to take a break and enjoy Australian country hospitality in the peace of the Australian bush.

The Pub With No Beer Festival was a regular event on the country music calendar in the early 1980's. It was attended by thousands of country music fans, both locals and tourists who enjoyed the music and the community atmosphere, as well as the experience of visiting the authentic bush pub. Easter 2005 represents the first time the Festival has returned to Taylors Arm in almost 20 years.

"We intend to put The Pub With No Beer Festival back on the calendar as an annual Easter event," said Marius Els, Event Co-ordinator and Managing Director of Allied Artists. "It's the ideal location for a festival."

The Pub was built shortly after the turn of the century but became embedded in Australian history forever when it literally ran dry! A couple of the thirsty timber cutters, Gordon Parsons and Joe Cooper, proved to be talented songwriters and immortalized their frustration in what has become Australia's most famous song, 'The Pub With No Beer'. It was recorded by Slim Dusty making the Pub at Taylors Arm the most famous in Australia.

John Williamson, who performed at many of The Pub With No Beer Festivals in the 1980's fondly recalls being on stage at Taylors Arm all those years ago.

"Taylors Arm is one of those special pockets of our country and has managed to retain all its magic. It'll be fantastic to be part of the whole community spirit and perform in that environment again.

"There are a couple of generations that might have missed the full experience of an outdoor Festival so this'll be the start of something new for them" said Williamson.

The Pub With No Beer Festival will get underway from 1pm on Easter Sunday, 27 March 2005. A variety of foodstalls will offer plenty of food options throughout the event, while the Pub itself will ensure there's ample liquid refreshments to quench people's thirsts.
Free camping is available at the Festival.
The Pub With No Beer Festival is proudly sponsored by Country Music Channel, NBN, Country Power and Tooheys
