- LONG GONE LONESOME
COWGIRL- SOPHIE RAYMOND
IS THROWING ALL HER EGG’S INTO ONO BASKET, WITH A
“ONE SHOW ONLY”
ALBUM LAUNCH, AT TAMWORTH 2007
AUSTRALIA DAY, Friday 26th, 9 PM
with Andrew Clermont’s Supper Club band,
North Tamworth Bowling Club, Blyth St.
Sophie first came to Tamworth in 2001, with several members of
“The Waifs”- to perform in the “Long Gone
Lonesome Cowgirls” Theatre production. Sophie played Rae, a boardy
barmaid in an outback Queensland town set in
the 60’s, singin many classic country tunes of the era. The sell
out season won the hearts and minds of the Tamworth
faithfuls. It was, however, Sophie’s first introduction to country
music.
Her path seems to have been deeply fated by the experience!
Sophie’s Tours through the U.S playing her own tunes, found her on
a trail, leading through Nashville, Tennessee, New
York, Canada and all over Texas, playing Country music dance
halls, listening rooms, house concerts and even around the
campfire amongst the cactus under the stars.
Sophie has played Tamworth every year since 2001, and this year’s
Tamworth will make it lucky number seven, with the
inaugural launch of her brand new album “HiATUS”.
Performing at Andrew Clermont’s Supper Club each year, she has
formed tight bonds with a number of Tamworth regulars
including Marcus Holden, Steve Teakle and Parris McLeod, each of
whom made contributions to her new recording.
“HiATUS” also features Sean Rudd (Beccy Cole, Bella) playing bass
and Karl Lewis (Savage Garden, Hampdens) on kit.
Many of her Tamworth fans were amongst the 100+ people who pre-
ordered the album, contributing funds up front all
helping to finance the recording project. They are each credited
in the album artwork for thier support.
Sophie’s other talents lie in film that have taken her to
Sundance, the Oscars and every major and minor film festival
and awards across Australia. She has shot a couple of film clips
in her travels that she hopes to screen on the night the
launch!
