- STEPHEN ROWE BACK IN
OZ AND RECORDING WITH TANIA!
After wowing them in the US, Broken Hill’s favourite
country artist, Stephen Rowe, returned home this week to not only
launch his new single, “Two Clocks”, but also record a new duet
with Australia’s Queen of Country Music, Tania Kernaghan.
Titled, “Lets Fall In Love Again”, the song was co-written by
Stephen along with his good friend, Fiona Kernaghan in Los
Angeles. It was an easy decision for Stephen to choose Tania as
his female singing partner on the song – Tania has been a champion
for Stephen and his music from day one. It was Tania who invited a
then unknown Stephen to feature on the recording of her smash hit
“Yee Ha!” and also to appear in front of the 20,000+ crowd in
Tamworth at Bicentennial Park in January to especially perform the
song.
It’s been a hectic 6 months for Stephen who kicked off the year
with a visit to the Tamworth Country Music Festival. He released
his debut album, “Broken Hill”, in February with the title track
hitting #27 on the CMC Top 50. He also recently performed to rave
reviews at the world famous Los Angeles music venue, The Mint
(Bonnie Raitt/Jeff Buckley) along with ARIA Award winner, Tyrone
Noonan, Fiona Kernaghan and Brooke Beyan, had a full front page
feature in the Barrier Miner newspaper in Broken Hill and has just
been named a winner in BLU FM’s Dog Song Competition for his
track, “Don’t Kick My Dog”.
Stephen Rowe’s second single, “Two Clocks”, has just hit radio and
television and is already gathering rave reviews.
The duet with Tania Kernaghan - “Lets Fall In Love Again” - will
be released later this year.
- “Broken Hill”
The hottest new name in Australian
country and roots music – Stephen Rowe – kicks off his national
tour this month in Adelaide in support of his debut album, “Broken
Hill”.
Originally from the small outback mining town of Broken Hill,
Stephen left school at a young age to pursue a trade as a
builder/carpenter. He also raced motocross for Suzuki and was
fully sponsored by the local dealership. To keep in shape for
motocross he did four years of boxing and believe it or not – he
also studied ballet! A rarity for a boy from Broken Hill.
At the age of 19 he left his hometown and moved to Adelaide, where
he was offered a two year scholarship to study classical ballet.
Stephen went onto an international career in ballet for the next
15 years. While touring with ballet companies, Stephen started
writing his own songs. He grew up with traditional country music
and classic Aussie and British rock. His inspirations include
artists such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Merle
Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, the Beatles, David Bowie, AC/DC and
of course, the legendary Slim Dusty.
His debut album, “Broken Hill”, reflects these influences while
telling the story of his hometown, his family and his country.
It’s a personal journey which engages the listener from start to
finish. Co-produced by ALT country star, Anne McCue, “Broken Hill”
is country music at it’s coolest and very best.
Now based in California, music is the primary focus of Stephen’s
life – but he continues to work as a carpenter. He also explores
artistic endeavours through painting and sustains a healthy acting
career.
Stephen Rowe’s debut album, “Broken Hill”, is released through Red
Rebel Music/MGM Distribution on 3rd February. The title track is
currently impacting radio and television now.
