Steve Gibson is 'KING OF THE RANGES'
Premier Scone and Upper Hunter Horse Festival event King Of The Ranges Stockmans Challenge has gone one better this year in promoting their three-day stockmen’s challenge on 6, 7 & 8 May. Enlisting the services of Scone-based country artist Steve Gibson to write and record a song based on the "King Of The Ranges".

“We’re aiming to promote the event on a national level, and what better way to do it than with a song. Steve Gibson was the most likely candidate to do the job for us. He is an exponent of the Hunter Valley’s horse industry; has excelled internationally on the pro rodeo circuit and as a country music performer,” states Merv Nicholson, president of King Of The Ranges.

The project is being funded by Martins Stock Haulage (Scone) Pty Ltd, plus five local supporters in Merv Nicholson, Shane Easey, Matt Randal, Pat O’Hearn and John Sylvester, with the "King Of The Ranges" single being recorded in Newcastle. Written by Steve Gibson along with his Novocastrian co-writers Mark Hoppe and Mark Tinson, the song tells the story of the legendary Archie ‘Bung’ McInness who was the inspiration for this iconic Australian event. Arch was known throughout the Hunter Valley and North West region as the King Of The Ranges for his ability to track and catch wild brumbies and cattle in the ranges. Archie was decorated with the Military Medal as a member of the 1st Battalion Light Horse.

"KING OF THE RANGES" will also feature a poem written and performed by local poet Shane Easey.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure and truly satisfying to write a song about a true bush legend as ‘Bung’ McInnes and to be associated with the King Of The Ranges event,” remarked Steve Gibson.

Steve, who is currently enjoying the success of his current #1 hit “Hey Cowboy”, will officially launch the "King Of The Ranges" CD at the event in Murrurundi on May 7 in a huge outdoor concert. Donations from the sale of the CD will benefit Kids With Cancer and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
