KIERAN KANE, KEVIN WELCH &
FATS KAPLIN Rob Hall Promotions and Shock Records are proud to announce
the return to Australia of acclaimed Nashville-based
Roots/Blues/Country-Rock Singer-Songwriters Kieran Kane and Kevin
Welch, with acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Fats Kaplin and Lucas Kane on drums & percussion.
Their sixth Australian tour since 1999 follows their success on
the U.S. Americana Music Charts, where their current album “Lost
John Dean” finished 2006 as the No. 4 album of the year, above
even Bruce Springsteen’s Pete Seeger Sessions album, which their
disc deposed from the top chart position after The Boss had spent
9 weeks in the prime spot. They were nominated for “Best Group/Duo
2006” at The Americana Music Awards held in September in
Nashville.
Kieran and Kevin have been an acclaimed touring act in Australia
since the 2000 release of their classic album - “11/12/13 – Live
in Melbourne” That release – recorded at The Continental by RRR-FM’s Off The
Record, made it on to many critics “best of 2000” lists, with
their “live” performances being voted Best Club/Pub Gig of the
year in the Rhythms Magazine readers poll.
Kieran & Kevin’s previous album release “You Can’t Save Everybody”
spent several weeks at No.1 on the U.S. Americana chart in mid-
2004 .
With a history of eighteen albums between them, Kane and Welch are
the two main figures behind Nashville’s highly-regarded
artist-owned Dead Reckoning label. Kane first came to prominence with hip ‘80’s duo The O’Kanes and
he is now an in-demand writer whose songs have been cut by
everyone from Emmylou Harris, George Jones & Tammy Wynette to Alan
Jackson – whose No.1 smash hit “I’ll go on loving you” was penned
by Kieran.
Kevin likewise has a similar songwriting profile, with his songs
being recorded by artists as diverse as The Highwaymen, Trisha
Yearwood, Ricky Skaggs and Garth Brooks. Following his third duo
Australian tour with Kieran in 2001, Kevin visited our shores
twice, with his 2002 tour being captured on the recent “live” CD
release “Live, down here on Earth” recorded at The Basement in
Sydney with brilliant roots band The Flood, who then joined Kevin
for his October 2003 tour, during which the Sydney concert was
filmed for DVD release. “Plenty of Time – “live” is out now on
Shock.
The upcoming tour will see Kieran, Kevin & Fats, joined by
Kieran’s son Lucas on drums returning to The East Coast
International Blues & Roots Festival - where they were the hit of the 2000 & 2001 events, plus
performances in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and a limited run
of dates through major regional centres.
